Understanding the difference between Hispanic and Latino

Not all Latinos are Hispanic, and not all Spanish-speaking people are Latino!

To explain more straightforwardly, we’ll distinguish the two in the following way: Hispanic refers to language, and Latino relates to location.

Hispanics here are defined as someone with a Spanish-speaking origin or ancestry, including Spain.

Latino also refers to Spanish speakers, but only to people from Latin America - including Brazil - (the language spoken in this country is Portuguese and, therefore, it is not considered Hispanic).

Keep in mind that understanding the difference between Hispanic and Latino definitions is essential to know not only who you are going to target but also how you choose to refer to them.
